Abstract Boy

Mind over matter,
ask the Mad Hatter
if he found a new form
of substance abuse

Pitcher and batter,
strike out the latter
unless the wooden bat
is hollowed for use

And the abstract boy
wants more than a toy-
his blankest canvases
will become obtuse 

Simplest virtue,
the will to pursue
what remains excellent
among the refuse 

Vilest taboo,
a debt to accrue
over a lifetime as
a total recluse 

And the concrete girl
wants more than a pearl-
her deepest desires
will soon be set loose 

Give him a reason
and give her a song

This incompletion
shouldn’t last so long 

Give him the world
and give her a heart 

Truth remains curled
inside of their art

Give him a focus
and give her a hope 

His every opus
is her way to cope

Give them each other
and see how it ends

Brother and sister
as eternal friends

And the perfect joy
did lie in between-
idealism
